Astro and Canyon Guide Rope Access Harnesses Recalled Due to Fall Hazard
Spelean Pty Ltd has issued a recall for Astro and Canyon Guide rope access harnesses due to a defect in the ventral attachment point that poses a risk of serious injury or death.
What Happened
Spelean Pty Ltd has issued a recall for several models of rope access harnesses. The screws on the gated ventral attachment point of these harnesses can wear out prematurely. This wear can cause the ventral D-ring’s pin to release, leading the attachment point to open unexpectedly during use.
Which Products Are Affected
The recall affects the following harnesses manufactured before October 2023 with serial numbers less than 23J 9999999 999. The serial number can be found on the plastic label located inside the waistbelt.
- ASTRO BOD FAST harnesses (European version): C083AA00, C083AA01, C083AA02
- ASTRO BOD FAST harnesses (International version): C083BA00, C083BA01, C083BA02, C083BA03, C083BA04, C083BA05
- ASTRO SIT FAST harnesses: C085AA00, C085AA01, C085AA02
- CANYON GUIDE harnesses: C086BA00 and C086BA01
What You Should Do
Consumers should immediately stop using the affected harnesses. To rectify the issue, users must complete the repair kit request form available on the Spelean website.
For further assistance or information, consumers can contact Spelean Pty Ltd at (02) 9966 9800 or visit their official website at https://www.spelean.com.au/pages/contact.
Why This Matters
This defect presents a significant safety risk, as the opening of the gated ventral attachment point while the harness is in use could result in a fall, leading to serious injury or death.
