Environment Canada (ECCC) has issued a winter storm warning, identified as a yellow warning, for several regions in Newfoundland. This alert is triggered when multiple types of severe winter weather—such as heavy snow, wind, and blowing snow—are expected to occur simultaneously.

• Snowfall: Total accumulations are forecast to reach between 15 and 20 cm.
• Wind: Maximum wind gusts are expected to reach 70 km/h from the east to southeasterly directions.
• Visibility: Heavy snowfall rates coinciding with strengthening winds will cause several hours of poor visibility in snow and blowing snow.
• Temperature Fluctuations: On the Avalon Peninsula, temperatures are expected to briefly rise above zero overnight, leading to a temporary improvement in visibility. However, snow will redevelop by early Sunday morning with blowing snow in exposed areas.

The winter storm conditions are expected to continue until approximately noon on Sunday. While the snow is forecast to taper off near midday, strong winds will persist through Sunday afternoon, which may continue to cause localized areas of poor visibility due to blowing or drifting snow.
