The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Flash Flood Warning for portions of east central Kansas. The alert was triggered after Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the region, with 2.5 to 3 inches of rain already recorded.
Affected Areas
The warning impacts the following geographic regions:
- Southeastern Douglas County
- Northern Franklin County
- Southeastern Osage County
Specific locations that will experience flash flooding include Ottawa, Baldwin City, Wellsville, Centropolis, Pomona, Williamsburg, Quenemo, and Melvern. This alert also specifically includes Interstate 35 between mile markers 157 and 198.

Residents are urged to be especially cautious at night when it is significantly harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters and stay away from small creeks, streams, and low-lying areas.

Flash flooding is currently ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Hazards include the flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Radar estimates show that between 2.5 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen in the warned area.
