The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Flood Warning for the Angelina River at Hwy 59 near Lufkin. The alert is in effect from late tonight until further notice.

The warning specifically impacts Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties in Texas. The primary area of concern is the Angelina River near Highway 59 near Lufkin.

Residents and motorists are advised not to drive cars through flooded areas or attempt to drive around barricades. Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Use extreme caution when walking near riverbanks. Remember the safety phrase: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Expected Conditions
Minor flooding is forecast for the region. As of 7:45 AM CDT Wednesday, the river stage was recorded at 158.2 feet. The river is expected to rise above the flood stage of 161.0 feet, reaching a forecast peak of 161.4 feet by Thursday evening.
At a stage of 161.0 feet, minor flooding is expected to affect gravel parking lots and overflow onto gravel roads where they widen. Additionally, approximately one foot of overflow is expected across the left bank of the Angelina River looking downstream.
Timeline
The Flood Warning begins just after midnight tonight, March 12. The river is expected to reach its crest on Thursday evening. The next update from the National Weather Service is scheduled for Thursday morning at 8:45 AM CDT.
