Flood Warning Issued for Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson, and Jennings Counties in Indiana

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Flood Warning (NWS Alert Code: FAW) for portions of central and southeastern Indiana. The warning was issued following reports of heavy rainfall and is effective immediately.
Affected Areas
The warning covers the following geographic regions in Indiana:
- Southeastern Bartholomew County
- Southern Decatur County
- Northeastern Jackson County
- Northern Jennings County
Specific locations that will experience flooding include Westport, Elizabethtown, Jonesville, Millhousen, Letts, Grammer, Country Squire Lakes, Azalia, and Newpoint.
What You Should Do
Residents are advised to “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Avoid low-lying areas and move to higher ground if necessary.
Expected Conditions
Doppler radar and automated rain gauges have indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring in the warned area.
