Flood Warning Issued for Butler, Montgomery, Preble, and Warren Counties in Southwest Ohio

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, OH, has issued a Flood Warning for portions of southwest and west central Ohio. This alert is currently in effect and replaces a previous Flash Flood Warning for the region.

The warning covers the following geographic regions:

• Southwest Ohio: Butler and Warren counties
• West Central Ohio: Montgomery and Preble counties

Specific locations that may experience flooding include Hamilton, Kettering, Middletown, Fairfield, Mason, Oxford, Miamisburg, Lebanon, Springboro, Monroe, Trenton, Franklin, Bellbrook, Moraine, Carlisle, South Middletown, West Carrollton, Ross, Camden, and Gratis.

Residents are urged to follow the safety mantra: “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads. Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is significantly harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. To report flooding, visit the NWS website at weather.gov/iln or submit a report via social media when it is safe to do so.

Expected Conditions

Local law enforcement has reported active flooding within the warned area. According to the NWS, between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding, and low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.
