The National Weather Service in Wilmington, OH, has issued a Flood Warning for portions of southeast Indiana. The alert was issued at 8:38 PM EST on Thursday, March 5, and remains in effect until 2:30 PM EST on Friday, March 6.
Affected Areas
The warning covers the following counties in southeast Indiana:
- Dearborn County
- Ohio County
- Ripley County
Specific locations that may experience flooding include French, Hartford, and Friendship.
What You Should Do
Residents and motorists are advised to “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads. Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. To report flooding safely, visit weather.gov/iln or use social media to contact the National Weather Service when it is safe to do so.
Expected Conditions
Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations is currently imminent or occurring. Emergency management has already reported flooding on numerous streets and roads in and around Friendship.
While no additional rainfall is expected, Laugherty Creek continues to rise due to runoff from earlier heavy rain in northern Ripley County. Flooding impacts are expected to continue through the duration of the warning.
