Flood Warning Issued for Southwest Missouri Counties Through Saturday Evening
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Barry, Christian, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, and Stone counties until 6:00 PM CST Saturday following heavy rainfall.

The National Weather Service in Springfield, MO has issued a Flood Warning for portions of southwest Missouri. This alert replaces a previous Flash Flood Warning for the region as flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to pose a threat to the area.

The warning covers the following counties in southwest Missouri:
- Barry
- Christian
- Lawrence
- McDonald
- Newton
- Stone
Specific locations expected to experience flooding include Southern Springfield, Nixa, Ozark, Monett, Aurora, Cassville, Marionville, Clever, Crane, Purdy, Billings, Exeter, Wheaton, Verona, Fairview, Fremont Hills, Butterfield, Newtonia, Pioneer, Hurley, Stella, Stark City, Mcdowell, Pleasant Ridge, Madry, Ridgley, Wheelerville, Rocky Comfort, Powell, Boaz, and Big Sugar Creek State Park.

- Turn around, don’t drown: Do not attempt to drive through flooded roads. Many flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
- Avoid low-lying areas, rivers, and creeks where water levels are rising.
- Monitor local conditions and stay informed on further updates from weather officials.
Expected Conditions
As of 6:55 AM CST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that heavy rain from thunderstorms has resulted in 2 to 3 inches of accumulation. While no additional rainfall is expected, flooding of rivers, creeks, and streams is currently imminent or occurring.
Specific low water crossings impacted include:
- North Indian Creek at Orchid Drive
- Green Valley Creek at Holder RD
- Wilson’s Creek at Old Limey Road
- Little Crane Creek at Old Wire Road
- Flat Creek at Highway U and Highway C
- Shoal Creek at Farm Road 2110
Timeline
The Flood Warning is effective immediately and is scheduled to remain in place until 6:00 PM CST on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
