What You Should Do
Mariners are urged to take immediate precautions. Operating a vessel in heavy freezing spray is extremely hazardous, as rapid ice accretion on decks and superstructures can lead to a catastrophic loss of stability. Freezing spray may also render mechanical and electronic components inoperative.
Instructions for those in the affected area:
- Mariners should remain in port if possible.
- Avoid the warning area entirely.
- If at sea, alter course and secure the vessel for severe conditions and significant ice accumulation.
