NWS Corpus Christi has issued a Red Flag Warning for South Texas effective from 10 PM Sunday to 7 PM Monday, citing strong winds and low humidity.
Alert Details
The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a Red Flag Warning for South Texas. This alert replaces the previous Fire Weather Watch as critical fire weather conditions are expected to develop following the passage of a strong cold front.
Affected Areas
The warning covers a broad portion of South Texas, including the following counties and regions:
- Inland Areas: La Salle, McMullen, Live Oak, Bee, Goliad, Victoria, Webb, Duval, Jim Wells, Inland Kleberg, Inland Nueces, Inland San Patricio, Inland Refugio, and Inland Calhoun.
- Coastal Areas: Coastal Aransas, Coastal Kleberg, Coastal Nueces, Coastal San Patricio, Coastal Refugio, and Coastal Calhoun.
What You Should Do
Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution with any outdoor activities that could inadvertently spark a wildfire. Outdoor burning is strictly not recommended during this period. If you spot a wildfire, report it immediately to the nearest fire department or law enforcement agency.
Expected Conditions
A strong cold front will usher in significantly drier and colder air, creating hazardous fire conditions:
- Winds: North winds sustained at 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching up to 45 mph.
- Relative Humidity: Values are expected to drop as low as 9 to 10 percent.
- Temperatures: Highs are expected to reach up to 76 degrees.
- Impacts: Any fires that ignite will likely spread rapidly due to the combination of high winds and low humidity.
Timeline
The Red Flag Warning is effective starting at 10:00 PM CDT Sunday, March 15, and is scheduled to remain in effect until 7:00 PM CDT Monday, March 16.
