The National Weather Service in St Louis MO has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Clinton County and Washington County in south central Illinois. This alert was issued at 5:51 PM CDT following radar-indicated storm activity.
Affected Areas
The warning covers the following geographic regions in south central Illinois:
- Clinton County (Central portion)
- Washington County
Specific locations impacted include Nashville, Okawville, Bartelso, Lively Grove, Johannisburg, New Memphis, Damiansville, Oakdale, Addieville, Covington, Posen, Beaucoup, Hoyleton, Ashley, Hoffman, Richview, Irvington, Wamac, and Shattuc. This warning also includes Interstate 64 in Illinois between exits 34 and 61.

Residents in the warning area should seek shelter immediately inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm is capable of producing damaging winds. Because tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms, the NWS recommends moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built structure.

At 5:51 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Marissa, or approximately 10 miles northwest of Sparta, moving east at 55 mph. The primary hazard associated with this storm is 60 mph wind gusts. Expected impacts include damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
