The National Weather Service in Quad Cities has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of west central Illinois and southeastern Iowa. The alert was issued at 9:36 PM CDT and remains in effect until 10:30 PM CDT.
Affected Areas
The warning impacts the following geographic regions:
- West Central Illinois: Northeastern Hancock County and Southwestern Henderson County.
- Southeastern Iowa: Southwestern Des Moines County and Northeastern Lee County.
Specific locations impacted include Burlington, Fort Madison, La Harpe, Dallas City, Stronghurst, Carman, Terre Haute, Gulf Port, Niota, Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Disco, Denmark, Lomax, Pontoosuc, Welter Recreation Area, Shokokon, Spring Grove, Sawyer, Wever, and Decorra.
What You Should Do
For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Residents should also remain alert for a possible tornado, as they can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado, go at once into a basement or a small central room in a sturdy structure. People and animals outdoors should seek shelter immediately to avoid injury from hail and wind.
Expected Conditions
At 9:35 PM CDT, radar indicated a severe thunderstorm located near Fort Madison, moving east at 30 mph. The following hazards are expected:
- Wind: Gusts up to 60 mph, which may cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
- Hail: Ping pong ball size hail (1.50 inches), which can cause damage to vehicles, windows, and roofs.
