The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of south central Arkansas and north central Louisiana. This alert is effective immediately following radar-indicated storm activity in the region.
Affected Areas
The warning covers the following geographic regions:
- South Central Arkansas: Union County and East Central Columbia County.
- North Central Louisiana: Northwestern Union Parish and Northeastern Claiborne Parish.
Impacted locations include El Dorado, Smackover, Norphlet, Junction City, Calion, Wesson, Lisbon, Lawson, Urbana, Mount Holly, Spearsville, Lillie, Catesville, Newell, Lockhart, Hillsboro, Taylorville, Three Creeks, and Kenova.
What You Should Do
Residents in the warning area should seek shelter inside a well-built structure immediately and stay away from windows. This storm is capable of producing damaging winds and large hail. Additionally, a Tornado Watch remains in effect for portions of Arkansas and Louisiana until 9:00 PM CDT.
Expected Conditions
At 6:17 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles southwest of Lisbon, or 13 miles west of El Dorado, moving southeast at 40 mph.
- Wind: Gusts up to 60 mph are expected, which may cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
- Hail: Ping pong ball size hail (1.50 inches) is possible. This poses a risk of injury to people and animals outdoors and damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles.
