The National Weather Service in Honolulu HI has issued a Special Marine Warning for the Alenuihaha Channel and Big Island Leeward Waters. This alert is effective immediately and remains in place until 2:15 PM HST on March 12, 2026.

Specific locations and landmarks impacted include Honokohau Harbor, Upolu Point, Keahole Point, and several FAD Buoys including OT, C, XX, UU, and ZZ.
Expected Conditions
At 12:16 PM HST, radar indicated severe thunderstorms located approximately 35 nautical miles west of FAD Buoy F (or 47 nautical miles west of Kahaluu-Keauhou). The storm system is moving northeast at 20 knots.
- Hazards: Wind gusts in excess of 50 knots.
- Impacts: High winds may cause significant structural damage to boats. Suddenly higher waves and steep seas could cause small craft to capsize. Blinding downpours are also expected.
