A Storm Warning and Heavy Freezing Spray Warning have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Anchorage AK. The alert is currently in effect for the coastal waters of Southwest Alaska.
Affected Areas
The warning covers the marine area from Sitkinak to Castle Cape out to 15 nautical miles (NM).
What You Should Do
Mariners are advised to avoid the area. Extreme freezing spray is expected at a rate of 4 cm per hour or greater, which may cause ice to rapidly accumulate on vessels. This accumulation can significantly impact vessel stability and safety.
Expected Conditions
- Winds: Northwest winds starting at 40 knots today, increasing to 45 knots tonight, and reaching 50 knots on Monday. Gusts up to 60 knots are expected out of bays and passes.
- Seas: Wave heights will range from 7 feet today, increasing to 9 feet tonight, and peaking at 10 feet on Monday.
- Freezing Spray: Extreme freezing spray is forecast to accumulate at a rate of 4 cm per hour or greater tonight and Monday.
