The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Storm Warning for the coastal waters of Lake Superior. This alert follows a preceding Gale Warning and is effective for the period of peak intensity starting Sunday evening.

The warning specifically covers the region from Grand Portage to Grand Marais, MN (LSZ140).
What You Should Do
Mariners are urged to take immediate precautions. The NWS recommends that mariners remain in port, alter course to avoid the storm, and/or secure their vessels for severe conditions. Storm force winds and hazardous waves are capable of capsizing or damaging vessels and significantly reducing visibility.
Expected Conditions
Conditions will deteriorate in two distinct phases:
- During the Gale Warning: Northeast winds of 20 to 30 knots with gusts up to 40 knots. Waves are expected to reach 5 to 8 feet.
- During the Storm Warning: North winds will increase to 25 to 35 knots with gusts reaching up to 50 knots. Waves will persist at 5 to 8 feet.

- Storm Warning: In effect from 7:00 PM CDT, Sunday, March 15, until 4:00 PM CDT, Monday, March 16.
