The National Weather Service in Chicago IL has issued a Storm Warning for the Indiana nearshore waters of Lake Michigan. This alert is in effect from 4:00 AM to 4:00 PM CDT on Friday, March 13. Additionally, Gale Warnings have been issued for the periods immediately preceding and following the Storm Warning.

The warning covers the nearshore waters from Gary to Burns Harbor, Indiana, and from Burns Harbor to Michigan City, Indiana.

Mariners are urged to take immediate safety precautions. The National Weather Service recommends that mariners remain in port, alter course to avoid the storm, or secure their vessels for severe conditions.
Expected Conditions
During the Storm Warning period, west winds are expected to reach up to 50 knots. Significant waves are forecast to reach 11 feet, with occasional waves as high as 14 feet.
The surrounding Gale Warning periods will see southwest and west winds up to 45 knots. Wave heights during these times will range from 6 to 10 feet, with occasional waves reaching 13 feet. These conditions are expected to reduce visibility and create a high risk of capsizing or damaging vessels.
