The National Weather Service in Aberdeen has issued a Winter Storm Warning followed by a Blizzard Warning for portions of north-central South Dakota. These alerts indicate a high probability of severe winter weather conditions that will significantly impact the region.

- South Dakota: Edmunds, McPherson, and Brown.
What You Should Do
Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If travel is absolutely necessary, you must carry a winter survival kit that includes an extra flashlight, food, and water. If your vehicle becomes stranded, stay inside the vehicle to remain sheltered. For the latest updates on road conditions, residents are encouraged to call 5-1-1.
Expected Conditions
- Snowfall: Total snow accumulations for the duration of the event are expected to be between 5 and 10 inches.
- Wind: Wind gusts are forecast to reach as high as 40 mph during the initial storm phase and up to 45 mph during the blizzard phase.
- Visibility: Widespread blowing snow is expected. Whiteout conditions will make travel extremely dangerous or impossible.
- Other Hazards: Strong wind gusts may be powerful enough to bring down tree branches.
