The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a Minor Flood Warning (IDQ20725) for the Herbert River. The warning was issued at 10:46 am AEST on Friday, February 20, 2026, following renewed river level rises caused by rainfall early Friday morning.

The warning specifically covers the following locations and sections of the Herbert River in Queensland:
- Herbert River at Gleneagle Homestead
- Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge
- Herbert River downstream of Nash’s Crossing
- Herbert River to Nash’s Crossing

Residents and travelers in the affected areas are advised to take the following precautions:
- Do not drive, walk, swim, or play in floodwater as it is dangerous.
- Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams, and waterways.

Expected Conditions
Rainfall earlier this week caused minor flooding which had previously eased, but recent rainfall on Friday morning has triggered renewed rises. Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the catchment during the next few days, which may lead to additional river level rises.
- Gleneagle Homestead: The river level was recorded at 4.36 m and rising as of 10:00 am Friday. It is expected to reach the minor flood level of 4.50 m by Friday morning and may remain at that level into Saturday.
- Abergowrie Bridge: The river level was recorded at 5.52 m as of 10:31 am Friday. It is forecast to reach the minor flood level of 6.00 m by Friday morning and may persist into Saturday.
Timeline
The alert is currently in effect. River levels are expected to reach minor flood stages late Friday morning and remain elevated into Saturday, February 21, 2026. The Bureau of Meteorology intends to issue the next update by 11:00 am AEST on Saturday, February 21.
