The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued Minor Flood Warning Number 11 for the Herbert River. The alert remains in effect following significant rainfall over the past several days, which has triggered renewed river level rises across the catchment.
Affected Areas
The warning specifically covers the following locations in Queensland:
- Herbert River to Nash’s Crossing: Minor flooding is currently occurring at Gleneagle Homestead.
- Herbert River downstream of Nash’s Crossing: Minor flooding is likely at Abergowrie Bridge.
- Other monitored locations: Herbert River at Zattas, Stone River at Peacock Siding, and Herbert River at Abergowrie.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to take the following safety precautions:
- Do not drive, walk, swim, or play in floodwater, as it is dangerous and conditions can change quickly.
- Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams, and waterways.
- Obey all road closure signs and plan travel routes to avoid flooded roads.
- For emergency assistance, contact the SES at 132 500. In life-threatening emergencies, call 000 immediately.
- Monitor local media and the ABC for further updates.
Expected Conditions
Rainfall from Saturday has resulted in rising river levels. At Gleneagle Homestead, the river is estimated to be above the minor flood level of 4.50 meters and is expected to remain elevated through Monday. At Abergowrie Bridge, the river was recorded at 5.92 meters and rising as of Sunday morning; it is expected to reach the minor flood level of 6.00 meters by late Sunday morning. Showers and thunderstorms forecast for the remainder of Sunday and into Monday may lead to additional rises.

The warning was issued at 10:28 AM AEST on Sunday, February 22, 2026. Minor flooding is expected to persist at Gleneagle Homestead and Abergowrie Bridge for the remainder of Sunday and into Monday. The Bureau of Meteorology expects to issue the next update by 11:00 AM AEST on Monday, February 23, 2026.
