The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a Minor Flood Warning (IDD20555) for the Katherine River. This update, Warning Number 35, indicates that near-minor flooding is occurring at Nitmiluk Centre.
Affected Areas
The primary areas affected include the Katherine River Gorge Road and the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre. Downstream areas, including the Katherine Bridge, are also being monitored. Specific river height observations have been recorded at Birdie Creek, Seventeen Mile Creek at Waterfall View, and Katherine Bridge.

Expected Conditions
As of 9:50 AM ACST on Saturday, the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre was recorded at 2.92 meters and falling, which is just below the minor flood level of 3.00 meters. However, forecast rainfall may cause the river to remain around the minor flood level overnight Saturday and into Sunday.
Downstream at Katherine Bridge, the river was recorded at 12.43 meters and falling. Levels there are expected to remain below the minor flood level of 16.00 meters. A Flood Watch remains current for parts of the Top End, including the Katherine River.

The warning was issued at 10:04 AM ACST on Saturday, March 14, 2026. The river is expected to remain at or near minor flood levels through Sunday, March 15. The Bureau of Meteorology expects to issue the next update by 11:00 AM ACST on Sunday.
