Alert Details
The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a Minor Flood Warning (IDQ20745) for the Suttor River. This warning is part of Flood Warning Number 4, issued at 1:03 pm AEST on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, following moderate to heavy rainfall over parts of the Belyando and Suttor catchments.
Affected Areas
The alert covers the Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam, with a specific focus on the Suttor River at St Anns. While elevated river levels are occurring along the lower Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam, those levels are currently expected to remain below the minor flood threshold.
What You Should Do
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take the following safety precautions:
- Do not drive, walk, swim, or play in floodwater as it is dangerous.
- Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams, and waterways.
- Obey all road closure signs and plan travel routes to avoid flooded roads.
- Monitor the ABC and local media for further updates.
- For emergency assistance, contact the SES at 132 500. In life-threatening situations, call 000 immediately.
- Visit www.disaster.qld.gov.au/warnings for local emergency management advice.
Expected Conditions
Recent rainfall has caused river level rises across the upper catchments. The Suttor River at St Anns is currently recorded at 1.34 meters and steady. However, as upstream flows arrive, the river is forecast to reach the minor flood level of 4.00 meters. Further rises are possible depending on the volume of upstream flow arrival.
Timeline
The alert was issued on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. Minor flooding is expected to begin at St Anns from around Friday. The Bureau of Meteorology expects to issue the next warning update by 2:00 PM AEST on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
