ProRider, Inc., of Kent, Washington, has issued a recall for approximately 9,546 bicycle helmets. The recalled helmets violate the mandatory federal safety standard because they do not comply with impact attenuation, positional stability, labeling, and certification requirements. These defects mean the helmets can fail to protect a user during a crash, posing a serious risk of injury or death from head trauma.

Which Products Are Affected

The recall involves ProRider Economy, Bike Helmets with turn ring, Bike Helmets Black Foam, BMX Helmets, and Toddler Bike Helmets. The helmets were sold in blue, green, red, black, and purple. Identification labels inside the helmets list the following details:

  • Economy Bicycle Helmet (BG-W/10BICYCLE): Sizes S/M (12/2022; Serials 00158202, 00158287) and L/XL (44652; Serials 00094738, 00094811)
  • Bike Helmet with turn ring (BG-14BICYCLE): Sizes S/M (12/2022; Serials 00141944, 00140406) and L/XL (44835; Serials 00134699, 00134652)
  • Bike Helmet Black Foam (BG-14BICYCLE): Size L/XL (12/2022; Serial 145398)
  • BMX Helmet (SPORT HELMET): Size XS (09/2022; Serial 127689)
  • Toddler Bike Helmet (BM-5TODDLER): Size XXS (09/2022; No serial number)

These products were sold online at ProRider.com and distributed by the Wisconsin Bike Federation, Kiwanis Club, and Foster Love nationwide from June 2022 through May 2023 for between $5 and $18.

What You Should Do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and contact ProRider for a full refund. To receive the refund, consumers must destroy the helmet by cutting the straps and emailing a photo of the destroyed product to org@prorider.com.
