Specialized Bicycle Components Recalls Turbo Como SL Electric Bicycles Due to Fall Hazard
Specialized has recalled approximately 5,720 Turbo Como SL electric bicycles because the fork steerer tube can crack and fail, posing a serious fall hazard to riders.
What Happened
Specialized Bicycle Components has issued a recall for all Specialized Como SL electric bicycles. The bicycle’s fork steerer tube can develop fatigue cracks, which may lead to a progressive failure of the fork. This defect poses a significant fall hazard to the rider. To date, the firm has received one report of a steerer tube failing and breaking, though no injuries have been reported.
Which Products Are Affected
This recall involves approximately 5,720 units of Specialized Turbo Como SL electric bicycles, including both 4.0 and 5.0 models. The bicycles were sold in various colors:
- Como SL 4.0: Cast Umber, Dove Grey, and Raspberry.
- Como SL 5.0: Smoke, Brassy Yellow, and Brushed Silver.
Owners can identify the affected bikes by the “Como SL” label printed on the seat tube or top tube, or by connecting the bicycle to the Specialized app. The bikes were sold online at specialized.com and through Authorized Specialized Retailers from March 2021 through January 2026 for between $3,250 and $4,800.
What You Should Do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Specialized Turbo Como SL bicycles. Owners should contact an Authorized Specialized Retailer to schedule an appointment for a free replacement of the fork. Replacement parts are expected to be available in Spring 2026.
For additional information, consumers can contact Specialized Rider Care toll-free at 877-808-8154 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. MT, Monday through Friday, or via email at ridercare@specialized.com. Information is also available through Live Chat on www.specialized.com or under the “Recalls” section of their website.
Why This Matters
A failure of the fork steerer tube while the bicycle is in motion can cause the rider to lose control, leading to a fall that poses a risk of serious injury or death.
