TheKiddoSpace Recalls Children's Flashcard Talking Toys Due to Lead and Phthalate Exposure

Product Recalls high CPSC · · United States

TheKiddoSpace is recalling approximately 4,000 children's flashcard talking toys that violate federal safety standards for lead, phthalates, and battery-operated toy requirements.

What Happened

TheKiddoSpace has issued a recall for two models of children’s flashcard talking toys because they contain levels of lead and phthalates that exceed federal safety bans. Lead and phthalates are toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues. Additionally, the toys violate mandatory federal standards for battery-operated toys because they fail to comply with short circuit protection requirements.

Which Products Are Affected

This recall involves approximately 4,000 units of TheKiddoSpace-branded children’s flashcard talking toys. The affected products were sold online at TheKiddoSpaceStore.com and Amazon.com from October 2023 through February 2025 for between $30 and $50.

Two styles are included in the recall:

  • Animal-shaped toys: Pastel-colored toys sold with flashcards. The storage box is labeled “Audible Flashcards” and the toy box is labeled “Audible Flashcard Device.”
  • Rectangular toys: These feature a card slot at the top, a speaker, and volume/power buttons on the front. They come with multi-colored cards illustrating animals, shapes, people, foods, or vehicles.

What You Should Do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled toys and take them away from children.

  • For the animal-shaped toy: Write “RECALLED” in permanent marker on the unit and email a photo of the marked product to info@thekiddospace.com to receive a free replacement toy of equal or greater value.
  • For the rectangular toy: Cut the USB cable and email a photo of the cut cable to info@thekiddospace.com to receive a free replacement USB cable.

After submitting the required photos, consumers should dispose of the recalled toys or cables in accordance with local hazardous waste disposal requirements. Note that button cell batteries are hazardous and should be recycled following local procedures. Consumers can contact TheKiddoSpace at info@thekiddospace.com or visit www.thekiddospacestore.com and click “Product Safety Recalls” for more information.

Why This Matters

Exposure to lead and phthalates poses a serious health risk to children if ingested. Furthermore, the lack of short circuit protection in these battery-operated toys presents an additional safety hazard that violates federal toy safety standards.
