Ford Recalls 2025-2026 F-53 and F-59 Commercial Chassis Over Brake Light Malfunction

What Happened

Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall for certain commercial stripped chassis vehicles due to a defect in the exterior lighting system. Specifically, the exterior brake lights may remain illuminated even when the driver is not applying the brakes. This malfunction causes the vehicles to fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, which regulates lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

The recall affects approximately 9,688 units in total. The specific models and years involved are:

What You Should Do

Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s internal reference number for this recall is 26C17. Authorized dealers will inspect the brake pedal assembly and repair the brake booster push rod as necessary, free of charge.

Official owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by March 23, 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on the NHTSA website on March 20, 2026.
