Ford Recalls 2025-2026 F-53 and F-59 Commercial Chassis Over Brake Light Malfunction

Vehicle Recalls high NHTSA · · United States

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 9,688 commercial stripped chassis vehicles because the exterior brake lights may remain illuminated without driver input, increasing crash risks.

What Happened

Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall for certain commercial stripped chassis vehicles due to a defect in the exterior lighting system. Specifically, the exterior brake lights may remain illuminated even when the driver is not applying the brakes. This malfunction causes the vehicles to fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, which regulates lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

Which Products Are Affected

The recall affects approximately 9,688 units in total. The specific models and years involved are:

  • 2025-2026 Ford F-53 commercial stripped chassis
  • 2025-2026 Ford F-59 commercial stripped chassis

What You Should Do

Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s internal reference number for this recall is 26C17. Authorized dealers will inspect the brake pedal assembly and repair the brake booster push rod as necessary, free of charge.

Official owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by March 23, 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on the NHTSA website on March 20, 2026.

Why This Matters

Brake lights that remain illuminated continuously fail to alert other drivers when the vehicle is actually slowing or stopping. This lack of communication regarding the driver’s intentions significantly increases the risk of a collision.
