Ford Recalls Over 849,000 Bronco and Edge Vehicles for Rearview Camera Software Defect
Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 849,310 vehicles because the rearview camera may fail to display an image, increasing the risk of a crash.
What Happened
Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall for nearly 850,000 vehicles due to a software defect in the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM). According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the APIM may overheat and shut down. This failure can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying as intended when the vehicle is in reverse.
Which Products Are Affected
The recall affects approximately 849,310 units. The following vehicle models and years are included in this action:
- Ford Bronco: Model years 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026
- Ford Edge: Model years 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024
What You Should Do
Ford will provide a software update for the APIM to resolve the issue. This update will be performed free of charge and can be completed by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on March 30, 2026.
Consumers with questions may contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s internal identification number for this recall is 26S09. Additionally, owners can check if their specific Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is affected by visiting NHTSA.gov, where records became searchable on March 5, 2026.
Why This Matters
A rearview camera that fails to display an image reduces the driver’s visibility behind the vehicle. This loss of rear-view functionality significantly increases the risk of a crash or injury while the vehicle is backing up.
